First of all, know and track your credit score.
Establish a credit history by acquiring a credit card (pay this off
every month or keep a low balance). Apply and pay off a loan
(make sure this loan is reported to one of the 3 credit bureaus). Before
applying for a mortgage, go to all 3 credit bureaus and
review your report. If there are any errors, you can contact each bureau
and have it corrected.

Get pre-qualified for a home loan and understand the types of
loans you will be applying for. Find out if your property tax and mortgage
insurance will be included in your payment. Find out
how much money down you will need. Homeowners insurance
is separate and you will need to contact your insurance agent to
get a quote for this.

Buying your first home can be one of the most exciting
experiences that you will ever have. The opportunity of
being completely independent, and owning your own
property instead of renting. It is truly a great feeling.

Consider the following to be a partial guide that will help
lead you through this complicated and stressful process.
